POST FOURTEEN - CSA

joining a CSA (community supported agriculture) is something we have been wanting to do for a while, and this year we decided to make it happen. i'm sure most if not all of you are familiar with CSAs, but just in case you aren't here is the basic idea. a CSA farm has a certain number of shares available to be purchased each season. the shares usually include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (varying depending on what is in season) and sometimes additional items- flowers etc... which you pick up on a weekly basis during the farming season.

these strawberries are the first produce we have gotten from Stoneridge Farm http://www.stoneridgeorganics.com/ which is the CSA that we joined, and they are amazing!! it's really cool to know that the fruits and vegetables will be coming from just down the road (litteraly, at least in nh terms) and that we are supporting a local farm. we will be receiving produce from mid june to october and i'm looking forward to trying some vegetables i probably wouldn't try otherwise. another cool thing is that we were able to lower the cost by signing up for a working share - (working a bit on the farm) which will be neat for us and the kids. i'm not sure exactly how the cost will compare to the amount i usually spend on produce, but for the reasons listed above we felt it was worth it!

  1. We just joined a CSA this year for the first time too. Gypsy Meadow Farm in Plainfield, NH. We are doing it through work and we had enough people that they deliver it to us at the Bank. Our first share was this week. We got a lot of greens, lettuce, kohlrabi, and fresh herbs. Your farm has a great website. I wish we were getting strawberries. Yum! You'll have to keep me up to date as to how it goes. I'm excited about it.
